Shoulder Injuries From Auto Accidents
If you've recently been involved in an auto accident, you probably already know that injuries from the accident can sometimes take several days to show themselves. One of the most common types of auto accident injury is a pain in the shoulder area of your upper back. If you're currently dealing with shoulder pain, Olson Bros Chiropractic of Roseville, MN wants to help you get started on the road to healing.
Causes of Shoulder Pain
During an auto accident, the human body absorbs a great deal of force from the vehicle. This is particularly true in rear-impact crashes, where the body absorbs most of the force from behind, propelling the back and spine forward in a sudden burst. If you're wearing a seatbelt or the airbags deploy, the force from the safety mechanisms then pushes you back into your seat. All of that force is absorbed by your spine, and in many cases, your upper back. That can lead to shoulder pain in the days after the crash, as the muscles in your upper back have moved far out of alignment.
How To Fix Shoulder Pain
After the first session, a small amount of muscle movement will alleviate some of the pain. Over several days, however, the muscles will tend to move back to their original position. Repeated treatments will train muscles to continue to move back to their proper position. This will have the effect of pain relief lasting for longer periods, and when it comes back, it will not be as painful as it was before the last session.
